THE BIBLE
READ IT: Memory Verse: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105 NIV
HEAR IT: Where’s Your Light?
Are you ready for the camping trip?
Canteen… check.
Walking stick… check.
Flashlight… CHECK!
When walking the woods at night, a flashlight is a must. You wouldn’t be able to see a thing without light. You would miss that low lying tree limb, that drop off on the left, and that critter snoozing in the middle of the trail. Light makes the path clear and easier to travel. God’s word, the Bible, is our flashlight. Never go on the trail without it. By reading the Bible, you can prepare for the bumps in the road, the missing planks in the bridge, and the not so pleasant creatures along the way. God’s word is our guide to help with each and every step. If you feel lost and lonely, your answer is in the Bible. If you mess up big time, search the pages. Tough decision got you up at night? The Bible will be your guide. You’ll find the advice you’re looking for. God’s word is our light in a dark world. No batteries required.

Meet David. When David was a young boy, he battled a ten foot giant, named Goliath. His adventures didn’t stop there. People sang songs about his victory against the giant, the king invited him to live in his house like a son, and he later went on to become a famous war hero. You would think a guy like David would be a superstar and live a celebrity-style life. But, you see, that wasn’t the case. As David became more and more popular, King Saul became more and more jealous. So jealous, in fact, that he tried to kill David-MULTIPLE TIMES. Where did David go for help? That’s easy…God! You and I can follow David’s lead. Whether you’re facing a giant problem at school, or you feel your best friend let you down, read the Bible and ask God for help. The Bible is not your typical book. God inspired it, His people lived it, they wrote it down, and now it’s sitting on your shelf (hopefully not dusty) waiting for you to pick it up. In its pages you will find drama, adventure, and the greatest love story of all. Best of all, it has a happy ending that you will want to share with all of your friends. What are you waiting for? Read!

Discussion Question:
Focusing is important with this illusion. Is our focus important in other areas of our life? It’s easy to lose sight of God’s purpose in our lives when we get distracted. How does God’s word help us focus on what is important?
LIVE IT: Cookies and Milk
I call this verse the “Cookies and Milk” verse. It’s a good one to memorize. Let me explain why. Have you ever walked into the house when mom is baking a batch of chocolate chip cookies? The aroma fills the whole house. That chocolaty goodness floats through the air and attacks your nose and you just have to have a cookie. Then, after that delicious, gooey cookie, your taste buds are just crying out for a tall glass of milk. Anybody with me? Well, God wants us to hunger for his word (the Bible) with all our might. He wants us to crave it, like we crave chocolate chip cookies. Then after we’ve read the Bible, he wants us to long for something else like that refreshing glass of milk. What does he want? Our actions of course! We are not just supposed to read, but put His words to work. They are a pair that can’t be separated- like cookies and milk.
